Going to Chicago and not taking in the festive treats is impossible. especially when you’re met with a Chicago landscape made of gingerbread every time you leave your hotel lobby!

Even a die hard Green Bay Packers fan can appreciate the level of skill and technique that went into this gingerbread replica of Soldier Field (it helps that the Packers are 2-0 in their games against the Bears this season!).

So with a hint of Irish luck

We set out, passing the sites of the city,
And picking up a little Christmas cheer along the way.
Stopping at the best candy shop on the corner of Michigan Avenue – Fannie May.

A family tradition since it opened in 1920 (seriously, these delightful chocolates and candies have been part of every family holiday for nearly a century).

Moving past the prettiest of trees,

And garland with hints of Tiffany blue.

Along the water and on our way to the Christkindlmarket Chicago.

The craziest and busiest holiday experience we found in the city.

It’s one of those places where strollers turn into battering rams and elbows become your greatest weapon.

Totally worth it, of course, for German-styled sweets and Wisconsin cheeses.

A very Frohe Weihnachten indeed!
Merry Christmas!

Looks like fun.
My Mom was born and living in Chicago until she was 11 or 12. Her Dad, a Russian Jew, came over on the boat as an orphan and made his way into being a politician in Chicago. Since they were wealthy, living across the street from the Alexander Sisters, I often wonder what kind of politician he was and who was backing him 🙂

Well…I’m embarrassed. I just researched Madame Alexander dolls and according to what I found…the founder was born in NY, lived in NY, no mention of Chicago.?!!! Another family mystery to add to all the rest of my unanswered questions LOL.
