Christmas in London – Royal Treatment

Covent Garden was our home base for the trip – a wonderful location walking distance from most of the sites and museums, and home to its very own Laduree.

The lights are twinkling, our mugs are filled with hot cocoa, and The Nutcracker is playing softly in the background…it must be Christmastime! And what better way to kick off the season than with a quick trip over to London for some of the world’s finest Christmas festivities.

Generally speaking, we try to take pictures that tell the story of our trip. For London at Christmas, the story is one of crowded streets, crowded shops, and crowded markets, as residents and visitors alike flood the area with Christmas cheer.

So for this series of posts, we’re going to take a slightly different approach and share some of our favorite (and least crowded) pictures from around the city.

Starting with the royal treatment, also known as Westminster Abbey – the site of numerous coronations and royal weddings –

And Buckingham Palace – where black and white swans paddle about in the adjoining water,

And the country’s equestrian ties are regularly on display

For all the world to see.

Just up the way, at the Household Calvary Museum, the Horse Guards stand by,

Ready to begin their journey up the road,

In glamorous fashion.

A truly royal affair.

      1. True though I thought sean and I were going to get trampled. We were in the business district right as work let out. 😩. I have never seen that many people in one place in my life! Haha.

      2. Yeah, that sounds like a mess! It seemed busier than NYC.

  6. I hope you have a wonderful time and keep posting your experiences, please! I absolutely love the pictures you post; they bring me back to a time when I was young visiting England – I didn’t want to leave. I feel the energy you speak of right threw your pictures. There is just something about England, its history and holidays. Oh – they don’t change over centuries! It’s truly a yearly holiday tradition!
