Neal’s Favorite Photos – Salt Lake City, Utah

Living in Denver, we’re only an hour flight from Salt Lake City. Ironically, sometimes when we feel like being closer to the mountains, it’s easier to hop on a flight and head to SLC. Located right at the foot of the Wasatch Mountain Range, Salt Lake is a surprisingly fun and entertaining city that’s managed to combine a love of outdoors with a love of urban lifestyle.

In our second rendition of the Neal’s Favorite Photos series, we show you around some of our favorite spots in the city.

No trip to SLC is complete without a stop by Vivant Smart Home Arena, home of the NBA’s Utah Jazz and Neal’s favorite basketball player, Donovan Mitchell. The team moved from New Orleans to Salt Lake in 1979. Although Utah is not known for jazz in the same way New Orleans is, the team decided to maintain the name.

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is one of our favorite stops. It follows the shoreline of the ancient Lake Bonneville and weaves in and out of the canyons of the Wasatch Mountain Range. It’s a trail runner’s paradise.

More from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.

Outside of the capital building, this little bee is an homage to the Beehive State.

Now onto some of our favorite parks throughout the city.

Sugar House Park is slightly elevated, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. One particularly wonderful thing about Salt Lake – although impossible to capture in a single photo – is its nearly 360 degree views of the mountains.

Closer to downtown, you’ll find Liberty Park, featuring beautiful, tree-lined walking paths, a very nicely maintained tennis club, and Tracy Aviary – the oldest aviary in the nation.

Finally, getting to the important stuff – food! Our go to stop for a delicious breakfast or lunch is The Rose Establishment. If unique coffee drinks, frosted tea cakes, and a beautiful and calming outdoor setting are your thing, then The Rose Establishment is the place to be.

Get a bee in your bonnet and head on over to Salt Lake. You can be as busy as a bee there. It really is the bee’s knees. Okay…enough bee jokes. It’s time for us to make a beeline out of here.

  4. I visited SLC many, many years ago. I will never forget the feeling of flying into a huge bowl because of the mountains surrounding us, as we flew into the airport.
