Carmel-By-The-Sea

Our last day in the Monterey area (insert frowny face here) brought us to the neighboring city of Carmel-by-the-Sea, a small beach city about 20 minutes away on the Monterey Peninsula. Within minutes of arrival, we had all fallen hard for Carmel.

From its absolutely charming storefronts and restaurants,

On the other side of this pink doorway is a delightful little breakfast and lunch restaurant called The Cottage.

To the polished gardens,

Carmel is a delight to all the senses.

As you stroll down towards the ocean, play a little game of House Hunters Carmel (which might require an earlier game of pretend PowerBall winner!). It never hurts to imagine!

I’ll take this one,

Or either of these.

These ones are technically just garages, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers!

Greet your new neighbors as they walk by…they’re by far some of the nicest you’ll meet in California. Can’t really blame them, they live in paradise.

Then head down to the beach and stroll along the water.

Or just take in the view with a few sweet friends.

There are patios for sitting.

And plenty of shops to pop in and out of.

From clothes to housewares, there’s something for everyone. In fact, if anyone is in the market for a $25,000 music box, I have just the place. Not surprisingly, there are lots of signs around that say some version of “you break it, you buy it.” Window shopping, anyone?

You can even window shop for windows!

Be sure to find one of the prettiest fire stations in America.

Or grab a little shade under a blooming Bougainvillea.

One day in Carmel is hardly enough, but as that was all we had, we really made sure to Sea-ze the day.
