Anyone who has suffered through a difficult job can understand that, at times, you don’t always make rational and well-planned decisions. Like, for example, booking a spontaneous, fully pre-paid trip to Tulum, Mexico on a long weekend when you technically have a work conflict.
Luckily, it all fell into place, and as particularly cold and snowy weather was setting into Denver, we headed out to sun, sand, margaritas, and oh-so-much guacamole.
We flew into Cancun late, and hopped in the car for the 2-hour drive to our hotel, Coral Tulum (amazing accommodations, amazing location, and amazing staff). By the time we arrived, it was dark, which made the next morning’s first hints of sun all the more rewarding.
We started the day with a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, pastries, omelets, and enchiladas.
Then strolled down to the beach…
Where we played in the waves, lounged on the daybeds, and caught up on a little R&R.
Thoroughly sun-kissed (okay, in reality various areas of our bodies we were burnt to a crisp, confirming my suspicions that fair skin and spray on sunscreen are NOT a good combination), we strolled down the beach hand-in-hand, in search of a light lunch.
The Aztecs are known for many remarkable innovations and advancements, but I think we can all agree that their best is…GUAC!
We scooped it down by the chip-ful, and made our plans for the rest of the day, which were remarkably similar to the first half of the day.
As the sun was setting, we headed into town for dinner at Mateo’s. The restaurant is less intimate than many in Tulum, but the fish tacos make the loud and crowded environment worth it.
As the partiers were heading into town, we headed back to the hotel to watch the moonlight over the water and listen to the waves crashing from our private soaking pool.
Our next morning started in much the same manner – with enchiladas and chilaquiles – and continued in much the same manner – with sunny naps and strolls along the beach.
One such stroll led us to Raw Love, a favorite we would return to multiple times.
While tacos and guac were our preferred Mexican gastronomy, there was nothing more refreshing than Raw Love’s smoothie bowls during the afternoon heat.
After only a couple days, we had fallen in (raw) love with Tulum!
